Into the Wild
This project tells the story of a teenager searching for himself in the wilderness. He was monitored, recorded, and copied during the journey. He finally found a carrier that carried his simulacrum, but was it really himself?
Baudrillard claims that our current society has replaced all reality and meaning with symbols and signs, and that human experience is a simulation of reality. We are in the digital era, we can be represented by one-sided symbols, online entries, and social media accounts. This society has produced many simulacra for each of us. This story reflects my thinking about modern social surveillance, existence, reality and Simulacra. It helps me to chew over two questions: Are we the real us copied by the data? Is simulacra another kind of reality?
